In this tutorial I will teach you how to create realistic bubbles in Photoshop CS3 (it will also work in Photoshop CS2) using nothing more than Photoshop's default tools.
First, you will need a blank canvas, open a new document, 400x400 pixels, and make the background black:
Now, select the circle select tool:
Make a new blank layer with a transparent background and name it Bubbles:
Now, make sure the layer Bubbles is selected, and with your circle select tool, draw a perfect circle (hold shift and draw it,) type d on your keyboard, to make the primary color black and the secondary color white, then type x to invert it, so your primary color is white and your secondary is black. Select the gradient tool, make it an eliptical gradient, and set the opacity to 50%:
Now draw a gradient from the upper right (not all the way though, leave about half a centimeter between where you start and the edge of the selection) to the bottom left:
You should end up with a nice looking bubble:
Thats about it, just do that a few more times in random places, overlap a few of them, and save it when you are satisfied with the result.
You can also add some color to them by flattening you image (Layer > Flatten Image) then adding an adjustment layer (Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance) just tweak those settings until you love it:
Enjoy!
