In this tut, I will explain how to skin Halo 2 using the GIMP 2.0.

You will need:
GIMP 2.0
DXTBmp
DotHalo

First, you will need to install DXTBmp, which is really easy, after that is done, open the map you want to skin in DotHalo, in this case, I will be using Turf:

Next, find the bitmap that you wish to modify, and click "Extract Bitmap", for this tut, I will be editing the blue soda machine, remember the DXT format settings, you will need them, ours are DXT4/DXT5:

Then you will need to open the DDS texture that you extracted in DXTBmp.

Set your editor to GIMP, the default path for the GIMP executable is C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin\gimp-2.2.exe to set it, click this button and select the executable:

Once you have opened the file in DXTBmp, and your editor is set to GIMP, click Image > Send to Editor:

Edit the image to your liking, in this one, I will be inserting my clan's logo into the soda machine. And here is the finished product:

After you have edited the picture to your hearts desire, in GIMP, click File > Save:

And in DXTBmp, click Image > Reload After Edit:

After you have reloaded the image, click File > Save As > DDS Texture, make sure you keep the DXT format settings right, in this case, it was DXT4/DXT5, so save it in DXTBmp as a DXT 5 image:

Go back into DotHalo and, with the correct bitmap selected, click "Inject Bitmap":

Close your map in DotHalo and you're done. If you want to play your map on xbox live, be sure to resign it too. Now open Entity, if you have it, and view your map to make sure that the skinning worked. Note: some skins do not show up in entity, but they are there in the real map, if the skin doesn't show up in entity, try ftp-ing the map to your xbox and viewing it there, if its not, then you did something wrong.

Here's what you should see in DotHalo after you have injected it:

And here is a shot of the soda machine in Entity:

I hope this tut helped at least one of you, if it did, then I am satisfied, if not, please tell me what you would have liked to see, and I'll take it into consideration.
