I'm baaaack!
I've been wanting to do another pano for quite some time. One of my buddies brought it up to me the other day and it got me thinking. I'd also had this particular location in mind for a long time (originally I was going to do this location instead of the Anchor 9 one). I put out a question on Twitter asking for people to name their favorite multiplayer map, and optionally a specific location on that map. I got lucky and @largondw suggested that I do Reflection, near the windows where the telescopes are. I asked him if it was on if I tweaked it a little and did it by the pond, he said that was fine, so we both won :D
This one was kinda frustrating, because it had been so long since I'd done one. I had to get back into the groove, reteach myself all the things I'd forgotten. After I'd taken all the pictures (I had them save to a USB drive) and used my Screenshot Extractor to...extract them, I had to reinstall a bunch of software. I reinstalled Windows a few months ago and lost the programs, luckily I still had the installers on another drive. I reinstalled PTGui, the stitching software, Pano2VR, the software that generates the interactive flash player, and InstantStorm, the program that allows me to generate a screensaver from the flash file. After stitching the images (which took a while because I had a large average control point error), I opened it up in Pano2VR only to learn that when I reinstalled Windows, I'd lost the skin file that I used (the buttons and all that). That led me on a merry hunt to see if I could recover it. Eventually I was able to decompile one of my existing flash files and get an XML file out that represented the skin parameters, allowing me to reconstruct (by hand) the old skin.
Anyway, long story short, everything is sorted, I have a backup (on another drive) of the skin files now, and you get a beautiful new Spherical Panorama out of all my hard work.
As always, something to keep your screen company when you're not there:
Reflection Screensaver
And the large version of the little world:
Reflection Little World

Looks amazing. Glad to see your back into the design thing. You working on something else or do you have something in mind for a follow up?
I'm always working on something, but nothing specific or relevant, just whatever strikes my fancy at any given moment. _________________

I said it on twitter, but I'll reiterate...
this panorama is drop-dead gorgeous!!! Great map choice. And I just love how relaxing it is to look at, along with the babbling water sounds in the background. Perfect choice for a screensaver. Wish I could make it a live wallpaper, kinda like the Android phones. Or can I? ... time to experiment
You (or I) could render it as a looping video, or a sequence of images. I know there was a panorama viewer live wallpaper app for Android, but it kinda sucked and there wasn't the option to have background sounds. _________________
