Well, it's about that time again

If you can believe it, Infectionist has been around for over 6 years now, and this site it's coming up on its 6 year anniversary, and I've got some difficult decisions to make.

On the one hand, this site has been a labor of love for me, I've put countless hours into it, and its been an absolutely fantastic ride, but I believe all good things must end. The friends I've made through this site and extensions if it are amazing, but I don't think anyone can deny that Infectionist has run its course. I'm proposing that I let infectionist go, but not immediately.

July 28th its the date that the domain will renew for another year, and i don't have time to make sure that every file is moved over to another domain before that day, so what I plan to do is renew it and keep track of what files are being requested and where the requests are coming from over the next year. By that time I can get everything moved to another domain with redirects set up pointing to the new location.

I want your guys' opinion on this matter. Clearly the forum is dead, and I'm not complaining about that, I'd just like to know what you guys think about this.

I think that's a good idea. I was gonna post about this sometime this week. Didn't know you paid yearly though. How much is the yearly cost? But yeah, keep it as a free domain or something? I dunno this internet stuff. As a monument to the years spent here.

I pay to re-register the domain every year. It's not a lot, $9.95, but if it's unnecessary then why do it? The hosting is billed monthly, and is $14. I have 3 hosted domains right now, infectionist.com, reachchallenges.org, and hrci.me. I could easily move the files from infectionist to reachchallenges and just change the links to point to the new location. There are bound to be some places with dead links after infectionist expires, but I can't edit every link everywhere. I can register infectionist for another year and keep track of where clicks are coming from so I can find and change those at least.

Sorry it took me so long to get on here and give my input. I think your idea to give it one more year and slowly migrate the busy links is a great way to handle it. That way it doesn't put a bunch of pressure on you, and you get to squeeze a little bit more out of the site.

I appreciate the time I spent here, and the friendships that have been built. And I especially appreciate the effort you have put in, HaLo2FrEeEk, to keep this community alive, and for giving me a place online to talk shop and brainstorm over programs. I know we all have gotten busy and drifted away from the forums over the months, but I look at that as a transition into the next stage of each of our lives. I know for myself at least, graduating from college and getting a full-time engineering job has been a total reality check. As with so many new things, it's both exciting and scary.

Ha, sorry to kind of drift off topic. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'll miss these forums when they're gone. This has truly been an electric home away from home for me. I hope we all keep connected in one way or another. It has been grand.

It's been a fun ride, guys. I've grown up and don't really have "time" (more like, too lazy/will power) to get on anymore. I've completely stopped gaming. Literally I play Xbox like once a month. I'll be playing more when Halo 4 is out, though. It's been a pleasure meeting you all and growing up with everyone. I can honestly say most of you changed how I am today. Look for me in the passing years as a doctor or senator. Two of my goals/college degrees I am going for. It'd be awesome to cross paths with anyone of you some day, but till then, goodbye. :)

It's you guys that made me keep this place alive as long as I have. I'm sad to say goodbye, but it's not really goodbye. We all know each other, I talk to Corey (Eviscerate) on Twitter, and I have him on Skype. I still talk to Barry every now and then. s.k. I have you on Twitter, although I think you stopped using it. Also, I have renewed infectionist.com for one more year, so we have until July 25th 2013 to wrap things up. It'll pass quickly, if the last 6 years that Infectionist has been up is any insight, but it's still almost a whole year.
