Damn you, Xbox!!!

Remember my post from way back when, where I announced that my Xbox had "screwed the pooch?" I replied in that thread that I had found another Xbox to use that worked perfectly? Well, it did...but it broke last night. Luckily this time it isn't a death note for the machine, I can fix it. It's not a red ring or freezing or anything like that, it's actually pretty simple (and also kinda my fault.)

Before I was using the Xbox I'd taken it apart to try and fix the drive tray problem, it was getting stuck. I messed with it so much that the spindle that holds the disk when it's in the tray broke off. It's a tiny little piece of plastic that has a magnet in it. When you open the tray, this tiny piece of plastic lowers the allow the tray to eject. Put in a disk, the tray goes back in and the little piece of plastic (we'll call it the mount) raises back up and fits into the hole in the disk, centering the disk. On top of the disk is another magnet which is the inverse of the mount, when the two magnets connect it holds the disk in place and allows the disk to spin up without slipping.

Anyway, I'd been having problems with the drive tray not opening, so I was trying to fix it and in the process I broke off the mount. I hot glued it back on and it held for quite some time (about 2 months) but I was watching a movie last night (Forgetting Sarah Marshall...funny ass movie) and the movie started to skip and pause, then the disk started going all crazy in the tray. I tried ejecting and it wouldn't do it. I thought it was just stuck, so I whacked the top of the console (it was on it's side.) It wouldn't come out at first, but eventually it did and it brought the mount along with it. The hot glue had let loose.

This sucks because it's a pain to take the Xbox apart, remove the DVD Drive, take IT apart, get at the motor that the mount is connected to, line it up, and get it glued again. I guess I'll just have to suck it up...or not. I dunno if it's worth fixing again, I might just save up to buy a new DVD drive for the Xbox...or a new Xbox ;)

The problem with just getting a new one? I don't have a job! Carissa won't let me even look at it until I get a job. I'm trying, but I'm also trying really hard to get the Paypal card on Lockerz...she'll let me get the Xbox if I can get that card.
