Well, Finally I got off my ass and got around to writing this. So, all I can say is, Rebellion, I'm proud and disappointed at you at the same time, and in this review I will tell you why.
Singleplayer-
Marine- The marine campaign in definitely the most though out, well organized, and longest of the 3 campaigns, though this is perhaps with good reason. This is also the scariest, or, tense, of the campaigns. Marine is the sheer horror of fighting off the 2 most terrible things in the galaxy, The aliens are downwright freaky in their appearance, and combined with their quickness, are a terrifying foe indeed. And the facehuggers can almost 1 hit kill you, not to mention they're the scariest god damn parasite ever.
With the predator, its the fact that you know this guy is constantly watching, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike...
The weapons are the shining star here. The pulse rifle has the iconic sound from the movies, and it can also hold 99 bullets, so it obvious you're meant to freak out and spray & pray. There's also a pistol, which while lacking stopping power, can shoot with a 3 round burst and carries a relatively large mag, weaking enemies fast so you can finish them off with another gun. It also has unlimited ammo, so it's best used to conserve. There's a sniper rifle, a flamethrower, perfect for frying alien eggs,
a shotgun, and the smartgun minigun.
The marine campaign also contains the most story, with audio diaries, and direct contact with other marines.
Predator- The campaign for the stealthy players, and also one of the most fun, whilst not as long as marine.
It is insanely satisfying to get a well placed ambush, cleave a man in two and rip off his friends head off.
And this is what you'll be doing most of the time in Predator, with the ability to cloak in a motion camouflage.
Pred's got a lot of weapons, too. With a shuriken disc, spear, plasma cannon, and mines, he is able to set traps and tear people to shreds with ease.
And nothing is funnier than watching a marine freak out when he realizes all his teammates just got killed.
This campaigns got its faults, too. The enemy AI seems to be a little to confident, as whenever you throw your voice to distract them, they'll abandon their squad and run over to give you a nice little hug...of death.
They also seem to have extremely bad hearing, as the muffled cries of the man you're murdering 3 feet away seem not effect them at all. All in all though, a fun experience, with a totally awesome boss fight (no spoilers here >.<)
Alien- The weakest of the campaigns, in my opinion. There's not much story here, and its about 3 hours long. Though it does have some nice mapping and gameplay.
I was disappointed here, as Alien was one of the species I was hyped to play most. The game has little story, save for the very beginning. It has really fun mechanics, though. In the first level, for example, you try to escape through vents. Vents are a really cool feature, as they allow you to find alternative ways to enemies to avoid getting killed.
Aliens have the weakest health, so they must either take out enemies stealthily, and seperate them individually, or rush in, kill, rush out. It really it fun to seperate marines, using their fear of you.
Another cool feature is that because the alien is to dark colored, if you're in shadows, its very hard for marines to see you. You can break lights to conceal yourself or to play with your enemies.
Singleplayer all in all, I think, deserves an 8/10. The marine and predator campaigns both being solid, with marines having a good plot and voice acting, and predator having great stealth mechanics, though the marines are pretty stupid. The alien campaign is good, just it wasn't long enough and some key elements weren't used enough. I'm not that angry about story for alien, after all, what story can you do with a mindless killing machine?
Multiplayer-
Deathmatch- I hate this game mode, but that's really expected. I don't think I need to go into detail about why this just doesn't work.
Species Team Deathmatch- This is fuuuuuuun. This is what we really want! All 3 species working together to wipe the other species out. The marines can really excel here, though everyone gets an advantage, really.
Mixed Species Team Deathmatch- How can having the galaxy's 3 deadliest species face off get better? Mix them together! This is even better. Seeing a marine and alien working together to set up an ambush is gotta be one of the coolest things ever. It's really fun to have all the species' talents work together to win.
Predator Hunt- Ugh... didn't like this one. it's where 1 person becomes a Predator, and the rest are marines. The Predator is the only one who can get points. Whoever kills the Predator, becomes the new Predator. I think this just doesn't work. The Predator is supposed to take his time, pick his targets, and ambush them. Not run around throwing a disc at the first thing he sees! The whole thing is just out of character. since when to marines hunt down a Predator? Never.
Infestation- This one is cool. 1 person starts as alien, the rest marines. Whoever the alien kills, becomes another alien. The marines must work together, because while 1 alien is no problem, 2 or 3 can wipe out a squad really fast. And the more people who die the more intense it becomes. This is definitely my favorite game mode.
Domination- The standard capture point mode, with a twist. Half the players are aliens, half are marines. This one is pretty good, though it seems to be quite 1 sided. Though the marines have more firepower, the aliens are so fast they can capture all 3 before the marine can walk his way to 1.
Survival- 4 marines must work together to fight increasingly harder aliens. This feels like a tact on last minute mode. It only has 2 maps, and 1 of them is just a courtyard. The other map is really cool, though, with doors that open up after you make it to a certain wave. It's a pretty good mode, I guess.
Multiplayer, I think, deserves a 7/10 right now, for very disappointing Predator hunt and Deathmatch modes, and the lack of dedicated servers that they promised would be in the game just can ruin it. It's hard as hell to find a game, and most are laggy. Still, once they work out some balancing issues, It seems like It'll be much better.
I will update and add more screenshots... though I have to take them first. _________________ Killing Floor is mah sheiznit
