Frontpage update

I sat down and worked on it a little last night and I finished a few things. First off I finished the search function. That was simple, I already had the code written in another folder from when I was testing it out, I just had to move the folder and replace some of the HTML to make it match. I also wrote the code for the Podcast page, so that's working now, too. I ALSO (I'm on a roll tonight!) made some changes to the podcast page, now when you click the "Download" link under a podcast you get a download dialog that opens up asking if you want to save or open the file, like with the Movie and Music pages. I sorta had to do this, and I sorta wanted to. I had to because the line that I had before was too long and was wrapping in the table, making it break the layout. I wanted to because it makes it easier to use (no more bothering with right-clicking and saving-as).

All in all I think it was a good night's work. Now I just gotta tackle the affiliates, movies, music, and tutorials pages (that means decide if I want to keep the affiliates page or get rid of it alltogether). It shouldn't be difficult, the movie and music pages are basically exactly the same script, Ijsut need to copy and change colors. The tutorials page will be harder. Well I'm having to rewrite the code for all the pages, so it'll be ready when I can finally find the time to go and write the code for the affiliates (if I decide to keep that page) movies, music, and tutorials pages, among a few others that I've written that will have to be modified to work with the new template. Tutorials is gonna be the hardest since I'll have to resize all the pictures. They're all sized to fit perfectly within the current theme, which is 770 pixels wide (most of the pictures are 768 to be safe), the new theme is 566 pixels wide.

I went ahead and did the movies and music pages, they were a lot easier than I was expecting...check em out here:

I think it looks pretty good, but like I've said before, I'm no designer by any means, lemme know if there's anything you'd change.

I also redid the icons, though you probably can't tell; it's a very subtle difference, but the new ones are better. I ripped them directly out of the Windows executable files, took me HOURS to find the icons for wmv, wma, mp3, avi, etc... They were hidden in some obscure dll in the system32 folder...it was stupid.

Anywho, check it out, lemme know what you think. All that's left is to do the tutorial pages, which now that I think about it shouldn't be TOO difficult.

And I think I've decided to get rid of the affiliates page alltogether, but I don't want to completely destroy it, in case I decide to bring it back, so I modified the code a little on the frontpage so that I can simply hide a link from the navigation menu, instead of just disabling it. Both have their advantages.

Yes as you should (maybe) all notice I changed the favicon, that's the little icon that shows up in the address bar next to the url. It's now the extermination medal from Halo 3, matches the colors for the new theme a little better.

And the new colors are blues and grays, mainly, yeah.

The main problem I'm having with all this is the number of pages I have spread across the site that use the current theme, I'll have to find and change all those pages. I'll rely on all of you to help me with that. The good thing is, most of the pages are not public ones, so it shouldn't be long before I get the new template up! YEY!
