Movies and Music pages coming back! (ARE BACK!!!)

You (should) have all noticed that the Movies and Music pages on the frontpage have been offline for quite some time now. This was due to a security flaw I found in the script that would allow a malicious individual (or anyone with the knowledge, really) to download ANY file on the server by changing the URL. This meant that the person could download the config file that contains the hostname, username, and password to the database. It might have been drastic.

The quickest way at the time was to just turn the pages off; disable the links and kill the script before it started. It's been that way for, oh I don't know, more than a year now. Well I got bored so I'm working on bringing them back. I know what I have to do to fix it, I just want to make it look a little better, add some features. I'm not using the old system and just fixing it, I'm completely rewriting the code from scratch. It should operate in a similar way to the old system, giving you some information about the files being offered, but I'll have more control over it. Descriptions will be saved in the database, as will information like the number of downloads and whatnot. I probably won't be putting things like file date, that's not really useful. It'll be paginated, which means there'll be 10 files per page and numbers at the bottom to take you to the other pages. I'll also be able to control more easily the types of files that are displayed, I think that'll be stored in the database, too.

Anywho, just wanted to let you know to expect that back online soon.

Yep, that's right, the pages are back. They're simple, unsightly, and they work. That's all I care about now. I might add some more features to them later, like different sort ordering and the ability to choose how many items per page, but for now this is pretty good...and it's secure.

Change what layout? The site? You do realize that it's not an easy thing to do, right? I have to rewrite all the code. I'm working on it, it just takes a while and time isn't a luxury I have a lot of right now. And trust me I'd love to see some infectonist machinimas too, but I don't have my capture card yet, I need to get it shipped down and I don't have the money for it. And like I said, time isn't a luxury I have at the moment.

Btw, all of this was typed on an iPhone from the mall.

And I can't wait for music and movies to come back. I downloaded quite a few songs back when we were able to and I watched most every movie.

I just like being able to go online, I wanna buy one when Verizon starts supporting it, if they ever do. I'm elegible for an upgrade come november, I'm not holding my breath that it'll be supported by then though, and there's really no phones that I want, I'm happy with my Voyager. Maybe the EnV Touch, Justin has that.

I am happy with my phone too because it does all the things I require from it. All I do is text, pix, and call people. I also carry around my iPod but it is a standard 120 gb classic with over 3100 songs. When I have some extra money (if ever) I would like to get something really cool maybe a Google Wave, idk I need to look up more about it.
