Twitter Rules The World!!!!!

Well not really, but it does seem like a lot of people use it now. The only reason I got one is for JTV, so I could get the "my channel is awesome" badge. But I had a stroke of brilliance...or just a fleeting idea, a few minutes ago and wanted to know what you thought about it.

Since twitter is such a widespread service, I think it'd be neat to incorporate something into the site that would post a tweet (that's what they're called on twitter, posts, they're called tweets, lame huh) to twitter everytime I made a post on the frontpage, or everytime I made a significant post in the forums (that would be harder.)

I think it's a pretty neat idea and I know Twitter isn't hard to develop for, they have an SDK for developing your own software for posting to your twitter, I even heard of a guy that rigged up a little belt that he put around his pregnant wife's tummy and everytime the baby kicked it would wirelessly send a command to his computer which would add an update to twitter. That's pretty neat, and if you can do that...I can do this.

So what do you guys think, it would definately be a good way of getting it out there a little more. I could even simplify it by just having something go through the news RSS feed once every few hours and post an update to twitter then, instead of having it do it right when I make the actual post. That would save me from having to actually modify the code for submitting news.

If I can do it the way I want to then the forums'll be just as easy. Basically it'll just check the RSS feed like, once an hour, and make the updates then. I could do something similar with the forums, just have a checkbox that only shows up for admins and mods that you would tell be like "post this to twitter" and if checked then when the server checks for new updates it would pull all the posts with that checkbox value checked and post it. I'm looking into a PHP Twitter API, so we'll see, I like the idea though.

It wouldn't be for any of us, it would be for the rest of the world. Myspace and Facebook are huge, everyone has one. Twitter's getting there. If I can make an Infectionist twitter and post any updates that are posted here on that twitter, someone might find it and be like, hmmm, that looks interesting. It's just another way to get our name into another corner or the internats.
