Post subject: Pirate Ship (Foundry) |

I spent all night (literally) making this. Here's the backstory:
I initially went into Foundry to remake Warlock from Halo 2. I was just messing around waiting for Halo 2 Vista to install so I could take some reference shots. Somehow the idea came into my mind to make a pirate ship. I got to work. I started with the bottom layers, using aligned double boxes to lean the keel against, then stacking more boxes to lean the middle/top portion against. I deleted the boxes and started using the save-in-place glitch (saving a map while holding the item) to make the bow (front). That part took the longest, getting everything lined up and actually looking like a ship, instead of just a jumbled mess. In the end I think it came out really well. I built on an upper and lower deck (I initially planned on having 3 decks. One would be the "brig", the lowest level where people who fell off would go, instead I made it into a powder room of sorts.) There is also a "crow's nest / navigation platform", complete with a wheel. You can go below decks and walk around, or you can walk around on the actual deck itself.
Now, after I'd put that together, I didn't want it to just sit in my fileshare ignored, so I decided to make a map out of it. The ship is the centerpiece, and there are numerous "islands" scattered about in the "water". The idea is to jump from island to island killing your enemies while making sure not to fall off. If you fall off you have a few options. If you were lucky enough to have picked up a grav lift beforehand, you can simply use it to get back onto one of the islands or the ship. If you don't have a grav lift, you can wait til someone kills you from above, or falls down and kills you, or you can go through one of the 2 teleporters in the corners. There are 3 recievers for these teleporters, 2 of them will put you safely back on the islands, but one of them will put you in a death box, a sealed area that blows up once every 10 seconds. That's your inclination to NOT fall off, besides, there's nothing to do down there, it's boring. Also, 3 of the islands are volcanoes, open boxes, which you can fall into. There are teleporters in here too which will take you to one of the 3 recievers.
This map can easily be modified to work for Infection, CTF, King of The Hill, or Assault matches. I personally think that an Infection variant would be cool. There is no gametype that comes along with it, simple slayer will suffice. There are weapons scattered about the ship and islands, and 2 of the volcanoes have turrets on them.
A few notes. There are ways to get out of the play area. I won't tell you how, but I'm sure people will figure it out. This game is based on the honor system. Play the map how it was intended. I didn't build it all so it could be played on the ground. If you DO manage to get out of the play area, there is a teleporter in the hallway that will take you to one of the 3 recievers. Also, I spent 12 hours on this map, so if there is anything you think I should/could do to improve it, please tell me. Whether it's weapon placement, scenery placement...anything, just let me know.
I made a promo video for this. It turned out a little more...epic than I meant it to (by that I mean the music makes it seem like it should be this epic video, I didn't mean to do that. The video is nothing more than a promo.) You can download it or watch it on Youtube:

Like I said, please play it and tell me what you think I could change to make it better. If I like the idea, I'll probably do it.
I hope you like it, have fun! _________________

There's nothing to build a mast out of, and therefore no crow's nest either. The only thing I could have done would have been stack barrels, but sonce barells are movable objects they would have fallen. That and I didn't have any more forge budget.
I'm sure on Sandbox there will be things I can build a mast out of and if so then I'll def. make a mast and crow's nest.
I intended the captains area to be a sort of crow's nest.
Oh, and I'm surprised no one mentioned that I've got the layout backwards. Usually the navigation platform is at the BACK of the boat facing forward, and the hole to the lower decks is in the middle. I put mine at the front. I broke it.
Lol, I didnt know any of that. _________________
