Weekly Update: Monday, January 12, 2009

So...how's it goin? I'm good, thanks for asking. 2 Weekly Updates in 2 weeks, I must be sick or something.

Really though, when there's something to update on, I'll update. There is something to update on. Most of you should know about the HD Recording Service I'm starting. Well, I started the coding on it and built some neat functions that'll really make inserting a new clip simple. You can check out a public demo I set up here of the first step:

Just enter your gamertag and click out of the box. If you have any films or film clips in your fileshare, my script will find them and display them in a dropdown box. The next step is choosing a film you want recorded. Once you do that, the script gets the length of the clip and prints 2 text boxes, one with 0 and the other with the length of the clip, this will be where the person will choose the start and end point that they want recorded. It's all pretty streamlined, but Ican't design to save my life, so I'll need someone who CAN design and make things look good to help me out. I'll let you know when I get there.

I also want to thank Poisonblood for the help he's lending with greeting new members. He's pledged to send every new member that registers a "welcome to Infectionist" message. It'll really help with the members that register to maybe read one thing, but never post. They'll be reminded that we're still here. Thanks man.

I also posted a few things that I planned on upgrading at the site over the last few weeks. One of which is the Music and Movies pages. I had to take these offline a while back because of a major security flaw in the code that allowed a savvy user to download literally any file on the server, including things like my database access config file and passwords that I didn't want to get out. This script was up for WAY too long and I just realized the issue. Luckily I don't think anyone else did either. I intend to fix this, but I'm not telling how because knowing how it works could post a security threat. I'm 99.9% positive that it'll work perfectly. I'll be sure to let everyone know when those pages are back up, I'm sure everyone is DYING to have them back (sarcasm).

Well that about wraps it up. I don't have a clever witty Halo 3 picture...but I do have a clever witty non-Halo 3 picture:

I know HTML but don't know a think about scripting. You did an excellent job with the script, which will hopefully be improved, and intensely increase the population of this deserted place. And CONGRATS POISONBLOOD :D

I got him too. I can get any lvl 7 pokemon that I want. Got a lvl 7 gyrados, and a lickitung, and a few others, including mew.
