Post subject: HRCI API |
|
|
I'm sure at least one of you knows about the HRCI API that's in development (I'm looking at you, Corey). It's been a while since I dabbled with SOAP...and I still hate it passionately. It's so picky!
Anywho, I figured I'd talk about it here since I don't have a blog (YET!) at HRCI. Basically the HRCI Developer API will allow developers to make desktop, web, and mobile applications using the data from the Halo: Reach Challenge Initiative. When it's completed, you'll be able to do everything using the API that you're able to do on the website itself, allowing for a lot of really cool applications.
For example, loading up a website with all the pictures and stylesheets and javascript can take a while on a mobile device, having an App (for that) will make things a lot smoother, and also allow creative freedom to redesign the display of information in your own way. Maybe you don't want to open up the site in a browser every day just to see the tips, maybe you'd rather have a handy desktop gadget or application that will automatically update with new information as it becomes available.
There are really a lot of possibilities, limited only by your creativity, so I'm pretty excited about working on it.
As of right now, I haven't opened up a public tester beta, I'm not quite ready (like I said, it's been a while...I'm a little rusty and prone to mistakes). I've got one working method called GetChallenges(), which returns an array of challenges, each of which have all the tips for that challenge, and each of the tips has all of its comments.
I'll definitely keep you informed as I go along, and probably more frequently if a few people show interest in this (again, Corey...) Hopefully there'll be some cool applications that come out of it! _________________

I think its an awesome step forward man. Personally I don't use HRCI much because im always away from home when I think to check it but its a pain to pull it up on my Droid. Can't help you though. Programming isn't my thing. Sorry.
Would something like this, turned into an awesome Android app, make you use it more? That's totally what I'm after, giving people more ways to get at and share content. _________________

Most definitely. That would actually be fantastic.
:D it's in the plan! I've got a guy working on an app for Windows Phone 7 as well, it's a hybrid Halo: Reach Stats / HRCI app (the challenges section will use the HRCI API to pull tip information) _________________
